Job Title: CMDB Administrator

Job Summary:
The ServiceNow CMDB Administrator will manage and maintain the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) within the ServiceNow platform. This role involves configuring, optimizing, and ensuring data accuracy in the CMDB, as well as collaborating with cross-functional teams to improve asset and configuration item (CI) management processes. The administrator will also play a key role in defining best practices and driving adherence to CMDB policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
CMDB Administration:
  • Oversee and maintain the integrity and accuracy of the ServiceNow CMDB.
  • Perform regular audits and health checks to ensure data quality and compliance with defined policies.
  • Create and maintain CMDB data models, including CI classes, relationships, and attributes.
  • Configure and optimize CMDB Discovery and Service Mapping to populate and synchronize CI data.
  • Ensure proper governance, controls, and documentation for CMDB updates, modifications, and corrections.
Data Integration and Automation:
  • Integrate data sources such as network monitoring tools, asset management systems, and discovery tools with the CMDB.
  • Work closely with the IT infrastructure, operations, and security teams to automate discovery and maintain synchronization with infrastructure changes.
  • Build and maintain APIs, integrations, and data imports related to the CMDB.
Change and Incident Management Support:
  • Support change, incident, and problem management processes by ensuring accurate and up-to-date configuration data is available for decision-making.
  • Assist in the root cause analysis of incidents related to incorrect or missing configuration data.
Process Improvement and Governance:
  • Develop and maintain CMDB policies, processes, and procedures aligned with ITIL best practices.
  • Provide recommendations for continuous improvement of CMDB processes and workflows.
  • Work with stakeholders to define the scope and structure of the CMDB and ensure alignment with business needs.
Reporting and Metrics:
  • Develop CMDB reports, dashboards, and metrics to track the health, usage, and performance of the database.
  • Present CMDB metrics and health status to leadership and other key stakeholders.
Training and Support:
  • Provide training and guidance to IT teams on CMDB usage and best practices.
  • Act as a point of escalation for CMDB-related issues and requests.
Collaboration and Communication:
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT operations, service desk, change management, and asset management, to ensure alignment and consistency.
  • Communicate CMDB updates, changes, and best practices to stakeholders and end-users.
  • Provide training and support to users on CMDB usage, processes, and tools.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Proven experience as a CMDB Administrator or similar role in IT Service Management.
  • In-depth knowledge of configuration management principles, practices, and methodologies.
  • Proficiency in CMDB tools and platforms (e.g., ServiceNow, SolarWinds).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python) and automation tools is a plus.
  • ITIL Foundation certification or relevant ITSM certifications preferred.
