Additional comments on the candidate characteristics we are looking for:
- We are looking for a self-starting, motivated, learner.
- This person will be the face of our product. As such they need to be personable, an excellent communicator, and have strong customer service skills. They should be comfortable, and even enjoy, talking to internal and external customers about what they want and need in this product.
- They need to have experience managing either a software product or an online platform of some kind. This is because they need to be able to take customer requirements and translate them into technical requirements.
- They need to be willing to lead product management, including the prioritization process. This is our highest product management role and one of the 4 key leadership roles in the company. They need to be comfortable debating and providing direction with confidence.
- We think this person is probably someone who has worked for a small team or start-up. We're concerned that taking someone who has many product management peers, in a large company, in a well-established and defined role, might have trouble with our early and rapidly growing/evolving product.
- We are a small team, and this person needs to be willing to get their hands dirty taking up tasks not always inside the job description.
