Job Description

The VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) Specialist is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the virtual desktop environment to ensure secure, efficient, and reliable access for users.

Key Responsibilities:

 

User IP Control and Firewall / User Profile Management

  • Configure and manage access controls between subnets.
  • Ensure proper IP control and firewall settings to maintain secure communication and data transfer.
  • Lock down user profiles to ensure all profile settings and files are redirected and saved in network shares.
  • Maintain and enforce policies for profile settings to ensure compliance and data security.

Audio / Video / Device / Display Redirection

  • Configure VDI clients to redirect audio and video to ensure seamless participation in audio/video conferences and multimedia training.
  • Support various VDI clients including web-based, client applications, and terminals.
  • Manage redirection for serial, parallel, and USB ports to support devices such as USB tokens, USB license keys, and local printers.
  • Ensure proper functionality and security of redirected devices within the VDI environment.
  • Ensure support for multi-display setups, including dual monitors, within the VDI environment.
  • Optimize display settings to enhance user productivity.

 

Application Management

  • Implement and manage an application store for auto-installing applications and limiting license usage to assigned users.
  • Monitor and enforce application license compliance.

PC to VDI Migration

  • Plan and execute the migration of personal and application settings from physical PCs to the VDI environment.
  • Ensure a smooth transition with minimal disruption to users.

 

High Availability

  • Configure and maintain high availability settings for the VDI environment to ensure reliability and minimize downtime.
  • Implement failover and redundancy mechanisms as necessary.

Drive Lockdown, Security and Compliance:

  • Lock down user C & D drives to comply with security and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure user data is securely managed and stored in designated network locations.
  • Focus on enhancing security measures within the VDI environment.
  • Manage the migration from Windows 10 to Windows 11 with a strong emphasis on data control and compliance.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in IT with at least 2 years in managing VDI environments.
  • Relevant certifications such as VMware Certified Professional (VCP), Citrix Certified Professional (CCP), or Microsoft Certified: Windows Virtual Desktop Specialty are preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of VDI technologies such as VMware Horizon, Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, or Microsoft Windows Virtual Desktop.
  • Proficiency in network and firewall management.
  • Strong understanding of user profile management and redirection.
  • Experience with audio/video and peripheral device redirection in a VDI environment.
  • Familiarity with high availability configurations and implementations.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
